Why would the NDP join the Liberals? I can see you asking why the Liberals haven't joined the Conservatives but the NDP they are not even close.
ReplyDeleteLayton tried to do this by proposing the coalition. Even Duceppe supported it. Unfortunately Iggy, who probably thought his stars were rising, jettisoned the coalition. Even more unfortunate, Iggy indirectly gave credence to the misinformation that the Cons were spreading about the illegitimacy of the coalition by expressing his uneasiness with it. I am resigned to a few more years of Harper and I thank Iggy for it. I think I will give my $1.95 this time to either the NDP or the Green party.
ReplyDeleteThere was a great opportunity to park egos by the NDP just before Christmas. The Liberals sat on it until Iggy came back and said NO Way!
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that the coalition was a pretty good step to take on a road to balancing the political playing field.
PR would be a better solution, and probably more likely to occur.
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives and Reform shared the same political ground. However, the right of the Liberals and the Left of the NDP are, for good or bad, considerably farther apart.
ReplyDeleteThe left can't unite since they don't share common ground. Furthermore, Jack's ego is far too massive to be absorbed by the new party. He would want too much. However, the real problem is not uniting the left, the real problem is the BQ.
