1729...Calgary Herald Editorial Speaketh The Truth

It's part of your job, PM

Dear Prime Minister *Harper*: You are the prime minister of Canada.

You do not need to pay for your own Olympic pass.

You should not allow yourself to be guilted into feeling you must pay for
yourpass by making a donation equivalent to its cost to the Olympic and
Paralympic organizations.

Attending the opening and closing ceremonies, and joining the
excitement at Team Canada hockey games, are simply the things that are expected
of a prime minister when the Olympics are held in the country of which he is the
leader.

Taxpayers should have no qualms about footing the bill for your trip to the
Olympics. Frankly, Mr. Prime Minister, we don't thinkCanadians are so petty as
to expect you to pay out of pocket for your Olympics pass. After all,
imagine the outrage if you didn't attend the opening ceremony. That goes
also for Premier Ed Stelmach and approximately half his cabinet who will be at
the Olympics promoting Alberta. This sort of thing is part and parcel of a
politician's job.

Liberal leader Michael *Ignatieff* was given a free pass to the Olympics by
the PMO, and he will simply accept it and use it, according to his office,
because he does not want to "politicize theOlympics."

Quite right, too, and kudos to *Ignatieff* for refusing to make an issue
out of something that should be a no-fuss, accepted perk.

Repeat after us, Mr. *Harper*: "I am the prime minister of Canada. I can go
to the Olympics on a free pass. And I ought to. It's my job."

  1. Right. I think I'll pen a letter to the Calgary Herald right now and remind them who's paying Harper's salary... when he pays for it (but not the airfare for him and his entourage, including psychic dresser) i'll eat my hat.
