2175...Warren Kinsella's Fave MP Does It Again

Garry Breitkreuz gets a dart Saturday from The Toronto Star for sticking his foot in it again.

The MP from Saskatchewan issued a press release this week denouncing Liberal Leader
Michael Ignatieff for proposing to "whip" his caucus against the Conservatives'
move to scrap the long-gun registry. The attack on Ignatieff was silly,
although sadly routine in Ottawa politics. But it was what the press release
said about Canadian police chiefs that raised eyebrows. Breitkreuz suggested
that the chiefs, who support the gun registry, are a "cult," are "politically
motivated" and that "their endorsement can be bought." Worse, when it became
clear that the press release was an embarrassment, Breitkreuz disowned it, and
one of his aides paid the price with his job.

When challenged on all this in Parliament, our beloved Prime Minister Stephen Harper responded that "...no sensible Canadian..." supports the long-gun registry. Except, apparently, the chiefs of police.
