  1. I'll have to violate the rule about posting comment that is longer than the blog post:

While the Liberals are trying to frame the election as one about democracy, I am not sure what the NDP's frame is. Maybe, the NDP is trying to become the senior citizen party. I'm not sure. While anyone can be encompassed in a democracy-milieu, the majority of Canadians are not seniors. It remined me of former NDP leader Alex McDonough's campaign theme of health care. For every question that someone asked, she gave a response about health care.

"What should Canada's position be about the Middle East?"

"We should be supporting health care for everyone." I'm just paraphrasing, but if the Israelis and Palestinians had better health care, Ms. McDonough would have been about to solve all the problems in the Middle East.

The NDP is going after the seniors' vote because seniors vote in great numbers. Unfortunately, what is going to happen a few years after the election when the NDP will be targeting the dearly-departed. The NDP will also have to acquire a sixth sense:

    "I see young people."
