4564...Joel Osteen Is A True Christian

And you cannot beat that.

The name Joel Osteen may ring a bell.  He is a Protestant pastor at one of those big ass American churches that suburban white people flock to, his being Houston's Lakewood Church.

He was on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and reiterated his view on homosexuality.   Pastor Osteen believes being gay is a sin, the Bible tells him so, but that gays should not, nay, no, no never, be discriminated against.

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

4561..Delmon Young Is Not Kosher

I never really heard of Delmon Young until recently; not a big beisbol fan.

Nonetheless Mr. Young is a bit of a star in the MLB and, allegedly, a lot of an anti Semite.

He currently is with the Detroit Tigers and from what I read in all the papers he had a kerfuffle last week.  To wit on April 27  Mr. Young was arrested for aggravated harassment.  According to the NYPD he yelled an anti Semitic slur before a game that his team had been scheduled to play against the Bronx Bombers later that evening.  50 said that he was drunk at the time.

Let me break it down for you.  Mr. Young was drunk, before a game, saw a Jewish dude and decided to make a hateful statement about said Jewish dude being a Jew.

If Mr. Young did not hit around .300 and have an arm like a cannon he would be so out of a job.

4558...Competition In Health Care Is Good

I know it will cause a lot of you to plotz but the fact is that if we in Ontario and Canada are going to fix health care and make it more accessible for the middle and under classes we have to have a, at a minimum, two tier health care system.

Fact is if we have such a thing then people with money will be able to pay for the services they need and leave more room at the clinics for poor and middle class people like me.

The Boston fans, as noted here, derided Mr. Ward, a man of colour, in the most vile and disheartening way, referring to both his heritage and choice of sport in an ill-informed and derogatory fashion.

Well, losers, get ready coz the 28 blacks in the NHL is merely the tip of the iceberg.  You see my racist friends there really have not been great masses of colour in the Great White North until the latter parts of the 1900's.  Not a lot of blacks = not a lot of blacks playing hockey = not a lot of blacks playing in the NHL.  Now that blacks are more established in Canada it is natural that they, as Canucks, play our number one sport.

4554...All Over A Few Bongs And Seeds

This is what Stephen Harper wants to bring to Canada.

Death.

04-27) 15:25 PDT Bakersfield, Calif. (AP) --
Two brothers who worked for their father's bail bond business have been shot to death while trying to confront a customer who had skipped bail on a drug paraphernalia charge.
Bakersfield-area news media reported Friday that 23-year-old Zachary Daniel Sims and his older brother, 26-year-old Brandon Nicholas Sims, were shot to death Thursday night outside a home they were staking out.
An unidentified spokeswoman for Bad Dog Bail Bonds told the Bakersfield Californian ( http://bit.ly/Jfr5TO) the men were the sons of the company's owner.
Bakersfield Police Sgt. Mary DeGeare says one brother was found in the front yard with a single gunshot wound. The other was found inside the home and had been shot multiple times, KERO-TV ( http://bit.ly/Ihi017) reported.
Police say 26-year-old Stephen Michael Stewart is considered a suspect in the slayings and remains at large.

4538...At Least The Tories Are Consistent

They hate on the poor and the underclass in Canada and now it appears, no, it is certain, that they hate on the poor internationally.

Don Cayo in today's Vancouver Sun tells us that ethically challenged Bev Oda who's portfolio covers the Canadian International Development Agency has shifted the bulk of our aid from countries that are desparate for it, Mr. Cayo mentions  Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Guyana, Kenya, Malawi, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Zambia, to countries that really don't need that much help.  Peru, Columbia and the Ukraine are three that come to the forefront.

Why is this?  Self interest.  It is the same reason that my two most Tory friends hate socialism but vacation in Cuba.  Coz they save money.  The Stephen Harpers see no benefit in helping the tinted people in the Benins of the world; whatever will they contribute to Canada?

WFDS

4537...Another Note To Gary Bettman

You gotta get ahead of this racism bullsh*t among your fan base in the NHL G-man.

blacksportsonline.com has an array of racist bullsh*t that Boston Bruin fans unleashed when Joel Ward of the Capitals scored in overtime to take out the defending champs.

The NHL is the least racially integrated of the four major American sports. If you need proof of this, you just need to see the reaction on Twitter as Washington Capitals Winger Joel Ward scored the game winning goal in overtime to oust the defending champion Boston Bruins.
Chirpstory.com collects Tweets on trending topics to tell a story with only the tweets. The story these tweets tell is that there is a whole hell of a lot of racist Boston Bruins fans. Of course this is not representative of Boston fans or of hockey fans in general, but it is scary that these people so easily put their racist feelings out there.
Here is just a sampling, for the full list click here
And my personal favorite, this guy must have Tourettes
Whether its racist crap like this or death threats against athletes (like Kyle Williams of the San Francisco 49ers) we see that sometimes sports fanaticism and assumed anonymity can be a very dangerous combination.
Although I wonder, what percentage of the people above would sing a different tune if asked to their face.
No one understands sports passion more than I do.  My second fave college basketball team is ABD, Anybody But Duke, but if Mike Krzyzewski was drowning I would throw him a rope not an anchor.
Commissioner Bettman the stuff quoted above is just insane; get in front of this story now.

4535...Note To Gary Bettman

From Deadspin.

Perhaps this is why hockey doesn't work in the South.

"Last month, I got an email from a guy who works Lightning games at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Our informant was piss drunk and looking for a place to vent about his job. It will shock and stun you to learn that stadium arenas do not operate like they did on that one Matthew Perry sitcom. I'll let our anonymous stadium guide provide the details.
This guy was writing partly in response to this story, entitled "GREAT FAN EXPERIENCE IN TAMPA." I've corrected some of his spelling errors, because he was drunk. I should add that the email arrived at 5:27 p.m.
Let me be the first to tell you, as an employee of the Tampa Bay Times Forum, that the management does not give a fuck about anybody.
I am currently nine beers in (Natural Ice because I'm cheap and in college, and it's got 5.9% ABV). I have 50 minutes before I need to clock into work. I think it's funny how arenas and stadiums try to tell their fans that the ultimate goal is to make life easier; where to go for their seats, where to find Outback and where to find the discount stations. My superiors never have told me any of this. But I can disclose a few secrets for hockey-goers' sake:
1) The Tampa Bay Lightning sell 24 oz. beers on the plaza, before you enter and before you go through security. The vendors sell them out on the plaza, so when one goes through security, they're casually asked, "Did you buy that here?" Of course you did. Long story short, buy a 24 oz beer, five of them for 6 bucks at a gas station and carry them in and you're gold. Better yet, use the can and fill it up with straight Jack Daniels and you're still all right. Searchers can't sniff or examine your can. Please, bring the liquor in, it'd make my job easier.
2) Be a dick to anyone in a suit. Especially if it's Nick. He's a cunt.
3) If you find someone who looks young, they'll let you into a lower level. Let's be honest, if a college-aged guy sees a couple hot women at the top of his section, he'll let them down no question. But if you're some asshole who gets mad at rich people for being rich then you are a dick. Be hot, and have a vagina. I will let you anywhere. Or if you offer me a beer that I can chug in the bathroom, I will accept. I have horribly low standards.
4) My superiors are retarded. And I say retarded because my ultimate superior is a former EMT named Tripp, and everyone below him and above me is a college intern. I don't want to be the guy who says, "Oh my god, my boss sucks," but fuck. The people above me have the chance to make my job easier and they don't do it. I'm not complaining. I'm drunk as fuck ready for work. How can I complain? Even my punctuation is lacking. I had an instance last week where four hideous old women wanted to go outside and get a cheap beer. We had a no re-entry policy. The suit cleared them to leave and come back. He left while they were out. I was there when they got back. Their tickets wouldn't scan because they'd been through already. I knew this. But I told them that they were fraudulent, and to fuck off. I'm a prick, don't come to Tampa. Not my fault you thought you'd get a tan and be happy. Suck my tan balls.
Long story short, I love my job. It gives me a horribly disillusioned sense of power that I like to exercise if I don't like someone. This, Drew, is how an arena operates. Suits and management can only go so far. There are fuckin' assholes like me that try to make life miserable for everyone else. And there are also poor people, like me, that make the innards work.
Noted. Also, I'm never going to a Lightning game. Are you drunk and unhappy with your stadium job? By all means, let us know: tips@deadspin.com."

Michele Mandel closed her piece on that joint by writing "For the rogue's gallery of evil which calls it home, we can only hope their new accommodations are as cramped and grim as their current abode."

Such a hater.

Such a b*tch.

Such a Tory.

As someone smarter than me once said, we are judged not by how we treat those with privilege but those without.  Those at the bottom.  No one is lower than a prisoner and to treat them inhumanely reflects badly on the society that imprisons them.

Ms. Mandel should be ashamed.

Pat Summitt's Lady Vols teams won 16 regular-season SEC titles and 15 SEC tournament titles, including the tournament title in her final season of 2012, and won eight national championships, her final one coming in 2008. Pat Summitt won SEC coach of the year honors eight times, and saw over 70 percent of her players win some form of national honor, ranging from academic to all-American to playing for the U.S. national team.

Pat Summitt's annual salary started out at $8,900 in 1974, but on Feb. 5, 2009, following her 1,000th win, she became the first women's basketball coach to earn more than $1 million dollars a season."

Hamid Ghassemi-Shall went to Iran in 2008 to visit his ailing mother but was sentenced to death for alleged crimes against the Iranian state.

"Canadian government officials have been working at all levels for some time obviously to urge for a judicial process and clemency in this case," Harper said. "And I know, of course, we are working with our international partners. I think our view is known. The government of Iran should note that the whole world will be watching and they will cast judgment if terrible and inappropriate things are done in this case."

Wildrose candidate apologizes for saying being white is an advantage

April 17, 2012 19:04:00
Bill Graveland
The Canadian Press

CALGARY—A Wildrose candidate in the Alberta election is apologizing for suggesting he has an advantage in his ethnically diverse riding because he is white.

“I think as a Caucasian I have an advantage. When different community leaders such as a Sikh leader or a Muslim leader speaks, they really speak to their own people in many ways. As a Caucasian, I believe that I can speak to all the community,” Ron Leech said on the “South Asian” program that aired on CHKF-FM, a multicultural radio station in Calgary.

Leech offered an apology for his remarks Tuesday. He said he had made them on the spur of the moment and hadn’t put his point across very well.

“I apologize if something was said at the moment ... that misrepresented the community or myself,” Leech said at a campaign stop in Calgary. “What I was trying to say, which didn’t come out that way and I apologize ... is that it’s not a disadvantage for me to be Caucasian to represent the diverse cultures of my riding.”

Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith was not aware of the comments when asked about them Tuesday, but said she wasn’t concerned after they were read to her.

“No, I’m not concerned about them. I think every candidate puts forward their best argument for why they should be the person who can best represent the community,” she said.

Smith, who said on the weekend that there hadn’t been any “bozo eruptions” from any of her candidates, has now had two glitches in the last week.

Edmonton candidate Allan Hunsperger, a pastor, came under fire for a blog he wrote last year in which he said gays and lesbians would end up in an eternal “lake of fire” if they didn’t change their ways. Smith stood by the candidate, saying a Wildrose government would not legislate any “contentious social issues” and her candidates can worship how they please.

Premier Alison Redford said she was surprised at Leech’s remarks and said it wasn’t something that would be tolerated in her Progressive Conservative party.

“I think those are inappropriate comments and I know they don’t reflect my views,” Redford said.

4494...Hitler's Birthday Will Be Sad In London

Ontario. London, Ontario.

As you probably know this Friday is Adolf Hitler's birthday and for some inexplicable reason pot heads, that would be chronic marijuana users, celebrate the day by phoning in sick at their call centre and bike courier jobs and get high in a public place to the general amusement of the police. At least that is what happens in Ottawa on Parliament Hill.

Not so much in London this year.

Scott Taylor of The London Free Press informs all that

Any ideas Londoners may have had about getting a free ride from police on April 20 have once again gone up in smoke.

Known commonly across North America as 4/20, the day is a symbolic one for pot smokers to light up in public as a way to urge governments to legalize marijuana.

Police were out in force last year when three participants were arrested at Victoria Park.

Several hundred people attended the rally.

Monday, police issued a news release saying strict law enforcement would again be in effect this year.

“The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act is in full force and effect on (Apri 20), as it is on any other day, time, or place in Canada, and members of the London Police Service will enforce the law on this date as they would throughout the year.

“A conviction for a criminal offence, including those under the Control Drugs and Substances Act, will result in a permanent criminal record which could impact future travel or employment as it could be revealed through a criminal record background check.”

Spokesperson Const. Dennis Rivest said that though some people assume police will turn a blind eye, they will, in fact, be visible and vigilant that day.

Blanchard, Michael "Flathead"
1944 ~ 2012
A Celebration of the life of Michael "Flathead" Blanchard will be held on April 14th, 3 pm 8160 Rosemary St, Commerce City. Weary of reading obituaries noting someone's courageous battle with death, Mike wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors' orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died.
Mike was born July 1944 in Colorado to Clyde and Ethel Blanchard. A community activist, he is noted for saving the Dr. Justina Ford house from demolition and defending those who could not defend themselves. He was a Republican delegate, life member of the NRA, founder and President of the Dead Cats MC. He loved music.
Mike was preceded in death by Clyde and Ethel Blanchard, survived by his beloved sons Mike and Chopper, former wife Jane Transue, brother Stephen Blanchard (Susan), Uncle Don and Aunt Cynthia Blanchard(his favorite); Uncle Dill and Aunt Dot, cousins and nephews, Baba Yaga can kiss his butt. So many of his childhood friends that weren't killed in Vietnam went on to become criminals, prostitutes and/or Democrats. He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell. As the Celebration will contain Adult material we respectfully ask that no children under 18 attend.

TV, well cutbacks mean that cities like London and Windsor and so on don't have a local CBC station but the infrastructure is there and everywhere.

Stay fed, become a Crown Corp and compete.

You don't think that if the CBC, especially radio, runs ads that they are not going to make money? Of course you don't. They will make mad money.

They don't have to cheapen themselves; supply and demand: limit the commercial load to say two two minute islands an hour plus sponsor ship for the news/sports/weather.

Doug Ford—Mr. Ford's brother, who took over the mayor's vacant councilor seat and who often speaks for the mayor—dismissed the author, saying he wouldn't recognize her if he saw her."

I know populism is not popular in this country but folks, pay attention, this is reality.

4457...Breaking News That Will Shock U

There is porn on the Internet.

Porn.

On the 'net.

Imagine.

My morning Daily Mail tells me that an "...ExtremeTech investigation surmised...30 per cent of all web traffic being pornography related."

Only 30 per cent?

Dr. Cox said it best on Scrubs a few years ago when he noted that "If they took porn off the Internet there would be only one website left: bringbacktheporn.com."

4456...Do Alcoholics Get A Discount On Booze

One would think by virtue of volume.

You know what I mean.

What brings this up is a story I read in the Melbourne Herald Sun:

Outrage over Alcoholics Anonymous decision to serve alcohol at its Melbourne conference gala dinner

ALCOHOLICS Anonymous has been slammed for its decision to serve booze at its national conference gala dinner in Melbourne this weekend.

Victorian members have spoken out in disgust that alcohol will be for sale tomorrow night.

A source said that many AA members in Victoria thought it would not only put vulnerable new members at risk, it also went against the principles of the organisation.

I love it.

The other thing I find odd about AA, and yes I have been at the meetings, the free coffee has appeal, is the fact that at some of them they demand you wear a name tag.

Uh, that makes me un anonymous, no?

4455...More On The CBC

Sell ads.

Lots of them.

Put on programming people like.

You, the CBC, have figured out radio; you are number one in most markets with monster shares like a 20 per cent share of the morning in Ottawa.

Those numbers have bank.

As for tele, well that Don Cherry is worth a hundred Steve and Chris'. Look for more people like him who connect to people like me.

Private broadcasters will and do have their panties in a knot over this. Point out to them that outside of a couple of markets they pretty much have monopolies/oligarchies.

Open skies ala Mark Fowler would mean cities like KW and London and so on would have a lot more local TV and radio and I don't think Astral, Corus and friends want that.

4454...Solving The Seniors Problem

They take up a lot of space, they smell funny and they are often higher than kites.

They are senior citizens.

Eskimos, the Sisters of St. Joesph's taught me, handle the senior problem by, at a certain age, putting the cotton heads on a chunk of ice, giving said chunk a push and waving as grandpa and grandma went over the horizon.

In our more enlightened times the state of Hawaii has, as I wrote about earlier this year, made it easy for seniors to buy and drive mopeds. That, combined with a no helmet law, has been beneficial in culling the herd.

Best idea ever comes from a Facebook posting. From the language I would presume this is American.

Budget Cuts

Next Month, the Immigration Department will start deporting seniors [instead of illegals] in order to lower Social Security and Medicare costs. Older people are easier to catch and less likely to remember how to get back home.

Please alert Stephen Harper.

4453...Fact Challenged Ezra Levant Strikes Again

In today's Ottawa Sun, my paper of record, and, presumably, all the other Quebecor rags, Ezra Levant weaves his fact challenged opinion.

In para two of his Easter Sunday piece exoriating Premier Allison Redford of Alberta for having the audacity of guaranteeing abortion on demand from one end of Alberta to t'other Mr. Levant shows his lack of knowledge on the issue of choice.

"...Canada, where abortions are available on demand, for any reason or no reason, from the moment of conception until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers."

Our confused political analyst goes on to say that "Canada has no legal limits on abortion whatsoever. It's a pro-choice utopia."

Except for the fact that he is wrong, he is wrong.

Three words: Prince Edward Island.

That, Mr. Levant, is a province and in that province the only choice is to have the baby.

By the way you may want to try this thing called Google.

Unlike you it is full of accurate facts.

4451...Mohawks. I Like Mohawks

They are living in the now.

Great quote from Joe Delarond in yesterday's Globe and Mail. Mr. Delarond is a member of the Mohawk casino project team.

We're Kanewakans. We don't consider ourselves part of Quebec. We are located in Quebec. We are also located in Canada. Wed don't consider ourselves Canadians. We don't say this in the nastiest way. This is just who we are...And if we do [build a casino] we will be operating it, we will be licensing it. We have a great gaming commission.

Love those guys. It is 2012.

4450...Don Brennan Ottawa Sun Genius

He pointed it out hisself earlier this week in The Ottawa Sun that he was the only hockey scribe on the planet to predict that the Ottawa Senators would not suck totally this hockey season.

Good on him.

Next time I see him at the Meadowlands Sports Pub I am going to buy him a brown pop.

The SUN TV bore is in a Twitter fight and is flashing his brilliant wit.

Check this snappy comeback to Postmedia's Glen McGregor:

@glen_mcgregor You are a former strip club DJ and Frank Magazine writer.

Not just an ad homenium attack but a very, very, very weak one.

I bet Brian Lilley and his buddy Ezra Levant musta spent all night writing that incroyable comeback.
