5932...Does The RCMP Know Where The Hill Is?

Coz that is where El Roundo is.

Just sayin'.

5931...Tim Tebow And Justin Trudeau

Tim Tebow was cut by the New York Jets, the Super Bowl III champions.

For those of you who, horrors, are not football fans, all that Mr. Tebow did in high school was win.  All he did in college, Florida Gators, was win.  All he did his first year as a pro with Denver was win.  He wasn't given the opportunity to win with the winners of Super Bowl III [we are up around fifty or sixty by now, er, L or LX I meant] so they fired him.  Smooth.

Justin Trudeau is cut of the same cloth.  All he does is win.  The difference between the team he quarterbacks, The Big Red Machine, and the winners of Super Bowl III, is that Big Red is smart.  Win pretty, win ugly, just win.  Like in the good old days with King, Trudeau I and Jean Chretien.

That is why the Stephen Harpers are running scared.

5930...Rich Versus Poor

The Atlantic just published a piece that explains why rich people, specifically rich kid people, do better than poor people, specifically poor kid people.

It has a lot to do with money.

Which, unless you are a welfare bashing fiscal conservative who has convinced himself or Ann Coulter that the poor have all the money coz of welfare, the poor have little of.

5929...Tim Hudak Chokes Again

It is nice that there are some things in this life that one can rely upon.

Thanks Tim Hudak!

5928...David Frum On Che Guevera

The sorta Canadian, he is from Niagara Falls, right down on Bridge Street, and he does live in the States, making him sorta American too, makes a big funny in The Daily Beast.

To wit:  "If the CIA had done a better job publicizing this photo of Che Guevera, a lot of student dorm rooms would look less morally idiotic."

True dat.

5927...First Gay Male Pro Athlete Comes Out

Sure there have been a lot of gay women athletes, the most recent to come out being the best woman player of this era, Britney Griner ex of Baylor and now with the Phoenix Mercury.  Men that have come out have been few, retired, and none active.

Til today.

Sports Illustrated breaks with the story that Jason Collins, an 11 year journeyman centre in the NBA has come out.  "I'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay."  Tina Fey would call him a two-fer.  "I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, 'I'm different.' If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand."

He played at Stanford with his brother Jarron Collins who is also an NBA vet.  Wait, Stanford?  That makes him a three-fer in Tina Fey speak.  "I didn't come out to my brother until last summer. His reaction to my breakfast revelation was radically different from Aunt Teri's. He was downright astounded. He never suspected. So much for twin telepathy. But by dinner that night, he was full of brotherly love. For the first time in our lives, he wanted to step in and protect me."

Now all Mr. Jason Collins has to worry about is the curse of Sports Illustrated.

5926...Don Cherry Says Something Un Intelligent

The National Post quotes the man as telling his cohort Ron McLean and the world these pearls of wisdom during the first intermission of CBC's Hockey Night In Canada:  “I don’t believe — and I really believe this — I don’t believe women should be allowed in the male dressing room,” Cherry said. “I — now, wait a minute — I remember the first time it happened to me. Guys are walking around naked and I hear this woman’s voice and I turn around and there’s a woman, and she’s asking me about the power play, and I say let’s go outside, and she said ‘I’m not embarrassed,’ and I said, ‘I’m embarrassed.’”

I am not surprised.  But the chattering classes are up in arms and calling for Don Cherry's head.

First off, if you favour diversity suck it up and turn the channel when Mr. Cherry comes on the Sony.  Secondly, how dumb are you?  You are so easy to manipulate.  The CBC's equivalent of Christmas shopping starts this week with the debut of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.  It is a cash cow, thee cash cow for the Mother Corp and you guys got it on the front page of every paper in Canada plus the hockey towns on the U. S. border.

If you don't think that the Don and Ron Show is scripted, loosely at least, you gotta give your head a beeg shake.

5925...Tory Senator Says Something Intelligent

I know.  Stop the presses.  Call the CFRA tip line.  This is massive.

Hugh Segal, the Tory Senator for what-does-it-matter, was written up in The Toronto Star a few days back about his great idea for a guaranteed annual income, GAI for short.  They do love their acronyms in Ottawa, doncha know?  This is a brilliant idea that would actually save the country money and will never happen coz it gets the Charles Adler's of the worlds panties wet.  Soaking wet.

As you know the WFDS has been advocating such since the beginning of time; ain't gonna happen but it would work.

5924...Dead Hooker Bursts To Life

Slow news day.  Forgive me.

So I mosey over to The Sun, the U. K.one and learn that a sex worker in Zimbabwe died while at work at the Manor Hotel in Bulaweyo. Police and paramedics were notified and "...as they were loading the 'corpse' into a metal coffin, the hooker suddenly woke up screaming...'You want to kill me, you want to kill me.'"

The Sun writes that "'A source told Bulaweyo24 News: "It was like a movie. People were running away in

different directions. It was a scary incident because we were all convinced that she had died because she

was just cold. Miracles surely do happen.'"

5923...Another Secret From Victoria

At least a secret to those of us east of Crowsnest Pass.  British Columbia is having an election.

Christy Clark by Kris Krug 05.jpg

The Liberals, under Chrissy Clark, have been in a majority since the turn of the century.  Alas it doesn't look good for them this time out.  The latest poll, done by Angus-Reed, has the party in power at 31, Adrian Dix's NDP at 45 and the Greens and Conservatives at 11 and 10.

Adrian Dix cropped.jpg

ThreeHundredEight.com has the Dippers getting a huge majority, the most probable numbers being 65-19.   What surprises moi is the fact that the Greens are predicted to get shut out.  I thought that this was their base of power.  Me musta thought wrong.

5922...Victoria's Secret News Flash

They are women who are objectified for their beauty.

But you knew that already, eh?

You know who did not know that?   Kylie Bisutti.  She is a 23 year old former "Victoria's Secret Angel [who quit] last year when she realized she was paid to titillate men."

Not one of the sharper knives in the drawer, is she?  But she is pretty.  She informed the New York Post that "I was being paid to strip down and pose provocatively to titillate men. It wasn't about modelling clothes anymore; I felt like a piece of meat... I realized I didn't want to model anything that sold sex."

Review.  She is a 5'10'' blonde, 34/24/34, in lingerie and it took her a number of years, y e a r s, to realize that she was being objectified.

Oy. And vey.

She has married and moved out to Montana, she is the only Italian in the state of by the way, and is eating whatever she wants.  "I no longer restrict what I eat. I weigh 124 pounds right now, but my ideal weight is 125. I want young girls to see me at a healthy size."

5921...Rita MacNeil’s death should make us angry‏

That is the headline over Andre Picard's story in the Globe and Mail yesterday.

The obese superstar died in a Cape Breton hospital later this month from an infection after a routine surgery. Apparently the hospital she was at, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, is the Wayne Gretzky of killing people.  Mr. Picard writes that "...the CBC program the fifth estate [sic] gave the Cape Breton Regional Hospital a D rating for its record on post-surgery mortality."  In fact “This hospital reports substantially more deaths after major surgery than the average hospital of the same size...”   Way more.  "...according to the ratings – 16.8 deaths per 1,000, almost double the national average of 8.6 deaths per 1,000."

Still you and other non Capers are not out of the woods; up to 12,000 Canuckistanians make it through the tough bits of surgery and end up dying of infection in hospital.  Per year.

Be angry.

5920...I Smell A New Tory Senator

Peter Penashue.

As you know he is going to get beaten like a rented mule in the by elex in Labrador next month.  According to a QMI poll "The Liberal candidate, Yvonne Jones, a former leader of the provincial Liberal Party, has the support of 60% of those surveyed, compared to 29% support for Penashue. New Democrat Harry Borlase is well back with just 10% support."

Off to the Senate.

5919...Air Quality Is An Issue In Eastern Canada

From Facebook.

Lord help us if they win the Cup, eh?

5918...Ottawa Mayor Gets/Pays Parking Ticket.

CFRA reports that our boy mayor, Jimmy Watson, got his Toyota Camry tagged with a fifty dollar ticket last night at City Hall.

CFRA also reports that our boy mayor paid said ticket toute and suite.

In other news, there is an opening at the parking enforcement office.

5917...Ottawa Citizen Takes Shot At Justin Trudeau

I dunno why nor do I understand the concept.  What I do understand is the Stephen Harpers have taken debt in Canada to a whole new level so perhaps Cam should be taking shots at them, no?

Just sayin'.

5916...Speaking Of No Shows

Del Mastro.

Where for art thou?

5915...No Show Jones Dead

George Jones, the greatest singer ever, has died today in Nashville aged 81.

And if he isn't the greatest ever he is on the list and the list is short.

5914...Barack Obama Makes A Funny

He's the President of the States and he was with the other living Presidents at the opening of the George W. Bush library deep in the heart of Texas.

Photo time!!!

Yes he did get a detention for this act.

5913...Ott Beats T-dot, MTL And Van In Food Battle

Honestly I found it hard to believe when I read this on The Huffington Post but, upon reflection, yes it does seem right.

What I am talking about is the Post's list of the 10 best street food cities in the world.  Your capital comes in seventh.  7/10.  Ottawa.  Hard to believe but it seems to be true.

Here is what they have to say about Bytown's street eats:

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Often over-shadowed by Vancouver and Toronto in the street food arena, Ottawa boasts a growing mobile meal scene, with 44 food trucks and carts already hawking their yummy goods and about 20 inventive newcomers ready to hit the streets in May. New trucks include the Urban Cowboy, which will dish out self-proclaimed “innovative Texan street food” and the Ottawa “Streat” Gourmet set to feature local, seasonal eats. New specialty carts will serve everything from frozen yogurt to churros and baked potatoes with toppings. These additions will join the city’s perennial street food favorites like hot dog and sausage carts, BeaverTails (fried pastries with your choice of sweet or savory toppings) and poutine (french fries topped
with gravy and cheese curds).

5912...Most Famous Canuckistanian In Drug Jam

That's what the BBC has to say about Stratford's own Justin Bieber.  His tour is in Sweden and "Police spokesman Lars Bystrom said, 'a small amount of drugs and a stun gun were found when officers raided the empty bus parked under the Globen concert venue in Stockholm,' where the singer was performing on Wednesday."

Justin Bieber

They, five-oh, smelt pot so they raided the bus.

No charges will be laid but they don't get the dope back.

5911...The Difference Between The Tories And The Libs

Good; not so good.

5910...Premier Tim Hudak

That's what he would be called if an election were held tomorrow in Ontario.

"...according to a poll by Ipsos Reid done for Newstalk 1010, Global Television and the National Post...Around 37 per cent would vote for Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak and 29 per cent would cast their ballot for NDP leader Andrea Horwath. Wynne is considered in a dead-heat with Horwath for second place with 28 per cent of decided voters supporting the Liberals."

In my view the big loser if an election is forced this spring would be the forcers, the NDP.  I believe they have a snowball's chance in hell of forming a guv and their peeps know that.  To that end I feel a lot of their support would migrate to the Liberals in the hope of stopping the train wreck that would be Premier Tim Hudak.

5909...Anti Trudeau Conservative Householders

I think they are also called 10 per centers, no?

Anyhow I think these ones are especially weird.  They make Justin Trudeau look messianic in that weird 4.99 novel kind of way.  Our beloved Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the other looks like he could use an Ex-Lax break.

Like, seriously, wtf are they thinking at the PMO?  Or drinking, coz smoking would be illegal.

5908...War On Terror Is A War On You

Last year, 2012, according to something I read in The New York Times, 17 people in the States died in terror attacks.  33,000 were shot to death.

5907...Rob Ford Make This Happen

5905...La Belle Research Proves Global Warming

From Montreal's CHOM FM.

Someone let Lowell Green of 580 CFRA in on this definitive proof.

5904...SUN TV's Adler Shows U How U Spend Ur $

Apparently on taxes.

Death and.

5903...Niki Ashton's Panties R In A Knot

Huffington Post reports that the Dipper MP is all huffy coz Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt told her to listen to her daddy.

It was in reference to Bill S-2 which is a bill pertaining to aboriginal marriage.  A bill that is supported by the Manitoba NDP.  Who are in power.  And who boast as one of their senior minister's Steve Ashton.  Niki Ashton's father.

Yer right, this is bullsh*t.  Serious bullsh*t.

BTW the Honourable Minister woosed and apologized.

5902...26 K For A Bottle Of Scotch!!! LCBO!!!

And the LCBO at  2 Cooper St. at Queens Quay in Toronto has it.

According to the Toronto Star it is ``...a 700 ml bottle of 50-year-old single malt Glenfiddich...`` kept in a glass case and everything.

Oh but apparently they forgot to lock the glass case and this lad allegedly nicked it on April 7.

Toronto police released this security camera image of suspect in the investigation of the theft of $26,000 bottle of scotch from the LCBO at Cooper St. and Queens Quay. on April 7.

Geez I hope he didn`t mix it with Diet Pepsi.

5901...This Is Why Rob Ford Resonates

He gives out his damn phone number, 416-233-6934, on his CFRB talk show.

He loves politics.

He loves his town.

He understands the Tim Horton`s crowd, the Don Cherry fans and the strap hangers.

5899...Happy Earth Day; Happy St. George Day

Everyday is something.

The only ones that are universal are New Years, Christmas, both Thanksgivings, Canada Day for us, July 4th for them and, of course, St. Paddy's Day for everyone.  The rest is just fluff.

5898...Guns Versus Terrorists

All rational beings with access to the 'net know that empirically speaking guns cause far more damage in the US of A than terrorism does.  To the power of.  Yet for some reason Americans [and Canucks too] are more worried about getting blown up by a terrorist than getting shot even though the latter is more likely than the former.

The Guardian, a lovely progressive fish wrap from Manchester, England, points out that last year 17 Americans died in terrorist attacks.  30,000 Yankees got kilt by guns.

The Guardian goes on to note that "The same day of the marathon bombing in Boston, 11 Americans were murdered by guns. The pregnant Breshauna Jackson was killed in Dallas, allegedly by her boyfriend. In Richmond, California, James Tucker III was shot and killed while riding his bicycle – assailants unknown. Nigel Hardy, a 13-year-old boy in Palmdale, California, who was being bullied in school, took his own life. He used the gun that his father kept at home. And in Brooklyn, New York, an off-duty police officer used her department-issued Glock 9mm handgun to kill herself, her boyfriend and her one-year old child."

It is a weird ordering of fears.

5897...Stephen Harper Is A Bully

Pretty obvious that our beloved Prime Minister Stephen Harper is a bully.  Nothing proves it more than his stupid yet, as Warren Kinsella pointed out in the Suns yesterday, effective slandering of his successor Justin Trudeau.

The above cartoon, fresh from the Halifax Herald via Facebook, says it all.

As does this:

Seriously, Canada, c'mon.

5896...Government Sanctioned F-Bomb Broadcast

Len Berman from Len Berman's That's Sports picks up the story:

David Ortiz of the Red Sox addressed the crowd before Saturday's game in Boston. He went uncensored proclaiming loudly "This is our F***ing City and nobody going to dictate our freedom." OK, it wasn't quite "Give me liberty or give me death," but he made his point and the FCC was OK with it. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski tweeted, "David Ortiz spoke from the heart at today's Red Sox game. I stand with Big Papi and the people of Boston - Julius." Was that the first government official sanction of an f-bomb?

Big Papi could run for mayor on that speech alone.

5894...Dean Del Mastro Where For Art Thou?

This dude is a great bullet dodger, eh?

5893...Bush III In 2016?

That's what Bush II is advocating.

The Daily Mail reports that George W. Bush, I am certain you remember him,  "...told Parade Magazine 'That’s for Jeb to figure out, you know what I mean? I would hope that people would judge [him], if Jeb were to run, on his merits and his track record.…So I hope he will run.'"

Seeing triple: Could Jeb Bush (right) be the third President Bush if he becomes the Republican party's candidate in the 2016 election? Here he is pictured next to his brother former President George W Bush (center) and their father George Bush Snr (left)

It is kinda interesting in that the USA [and Canada] was formed to get away from that royalty/dynasty stuff yet we are on the verge of a Bush III and a Trudeau II.

5892...The Aftermath Of 420 On Parl Hill

5890...Major Athlete Comes Out Sexually

You know it is bound to happen on the men's side.

But it hasn't.

Baby steps.

Britney Griner, the greatest college player of her generation, perhaps any generation, was drafted first overall out of Baylor University by the Phoenix Mercury and just casually let the world know, via ESPN, that she played for the other team.

Of course the super skilled jock is not the first openly gay woman in major league sports; I guess the women have bigger balls than the guys.

5889...Alberta Moms For Marijuana Make A Point

5888...Scary News Out Of Boston

K, so I know you know that they, the authorities, killed one alleged bad guy and caught the other one.

That is good.

Here is what is not so good.  According to The Guardian, a progressive paper out of Manchester, United Kingdom, the Department of Justice, intends on questioning suspect Dzhokhar Tsamaev without Mirandizing him.  He is an American citizen by the way.

Why should you be concerned?  Well the thing about the U. S. Constitution and our Charter of Rights and Freedoms is that they are supposed to protect all from the power that the state wields especially individuals like Mr. Tsamaev who are on the low end of the food chain morally, financially and other wise.

Pastor Niemoller must be rolling in his grave.

5887...Today Is 18's Birthday

So of course Parliament Hill will be filled with pot activists, yes that is the definition of oxymoron, getting high.

To celebrate Adolph Hitler's birthday.

I don't quite get it.

5886...Mike Duffy Makes Other Funny Joke

Geez is this guy for real or wot?

I am talking about the esteemed Senator Mike Duffy, Kanata.  Er, Prince Edward Island.  The man who took a housing allowance for living here when he lived there.  Or something like that.  Anyhow, the esteemed Senator cannot seem to get his sh*t straight.  The story now, as Kristy Kirkup wrote in my morning Kingston Whig-Standard, is that he "...said Friday he paid back the $90,172.24 associated with his Ottawa housing."  In March.

This begs the question:  if he paid back the money in March, why did he not tell Global TV that in an interview conducted in April?  In fact the esteemed Senator "...came under fire in the House of Commons earlier Friday for suggesting to Global News he hadn't actually paid back questionable living expenses despite promising to do so.  'We haven't heard from(auditing firm) Deloitte,' Duffy told Global. 'If repayment is required, it will be repaid.'"

My suggestion is perhaps the esteemed Senator was either over refreshed or recovering from a bout of over refreshing when he made one of the above statements.  As those in the know know the esteemed Senator has a great fondness for plants that are fermented and liquefied.

5885...Mike Duffy Makes Funny Joke

Scooped this off of Huffington Post Canada who in turn scooped it off a Global TV interview.

"I’m a man of my word."
I laughed so hard I broke a rib.

5884...Priorities In America

From Kingston's KROCK.

Crazy, eh?

5883...Dean Del Mastro, Mike Duffy, Senator Pony Tail

These guys have been dodging bullets for months.

Well, not so much for Senator Patrick Brazeau, but the other two, lemme tell you.

o.canada.com reports that "Almost two months after Sen. Mike Duffy said he would refund the Senate money he claimed for a housing allowance, the leader of the government in the Senate said Thursday afternoon she has not received a formal report that Duffy has given back any money.
Sen. Marjory LeBreton couldn’t say if Duffy had paid any money back, but she and other senators are hoping that spending questions about Duffy and three other senators will be answered soon."
To refresh, Senator Duffy has lived in Kanata longer than most of the planet has been alive yet, for some reason, he claims to live in the province he represents, PEI.  In other words he is a crook.

5882...They Look White To Me

The alleged and now dead and/or surrounded lads who bombed the Boston Marathon.

Dya think the US of A will now be bombing the f*ck out of Chechnya coz of this?

Me neither.

5881...Everybody Is Talking About Canada

My real world buddy, Facebook pal and assistant coach for the Maine Black Bears Nate Phillippe drops this knowledge on us.

“Everybody in the world is talking about Canada…outside of the US, there is probably no country in the world that is producing more blue-chip young basketball talent than Canada.” ~George Raveling

Those of us who follow the game have figured out that the great influx of kids from East Africa, i.e. The Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Uganda, is coming to fruition.  When they came over in the early 1990s you had a bunch of kids who needed something to do.  They and their families had no strong ties to hockey, baseball, football.  The two natural sports to play were soccer and hoop.  Plus they were athletes, in the case of the Sudanese, big f*cking athletes.  They helped push kids who had been in Canada for generations to play better.  The result is that Canada, specifically the GTA, is now for real.

5880...Justin Trudeau Has Only One Thing Going For Him

He is the best man for the job of running Canada.

Leaders, lead.

That is it; that is all.

5879... A White American, Let’s Hope The Boston Marathon Bomber Is

That is the headline that Salon, it is on online newsmag, dropped on Tuesday.

The thesis that Salon follows is in the sub headline:

                                                           There is a double standard:
White terrorists are dealt with as lone wolves,
Islamists are existential threats
David Sirota, the writer of the piece, goes on to quote Tim Wise who writes that “White privilege is knowing that even if the bomber turns out to be white, no one will call for your group to be profiled as terrorists as a result, subjected to special screening or threatened with deportation...White privilege is knowing that if this bomber turns out to be white, the United States government will not bomb whatever corn field or mountain town or stale suburb from which said bomber came, just to ensure that others like him or her don’t get any ideas. And if he turns out to be a member of the Irish Republican Army we won’t bomb Dublin. And if he’s an Italian-American Catholic we won’t bomb the Vatican.”

Mr. Sirota goes on to keyboard that "If recent history is any guide, if the bomber ends up being a white anti-government extremist, white privilege will likely mean the attack is portrayed as just an isolated incident — one that has no bearing on any larger policy debates. Put another way, white privilege will work to not only insulate whites from collective blame, but also to insulate the political debate from any fallout from the attack..."

A darker shade of pale will be not the same by a longshot according to Mr. Sirota:  "It will probably be much different if the bomber ends up being a Muslim and/or a foreigner from the developing world. As we know from our own history, when those kind of individuals break laws in such a high-profile way, America often cites them as both proof that entire demographic groups must be targeted, and that therefore a more systemic response is warranted. At that point, it’s easy to imagine conservatives citing Boston as a reason to block immigration reform defense spending cuts and the Afghan War withdrawal and to further expand surveillance and other encroachments on civil liberties."

Racism rears its ugly head yet again.

5878...Being Racist Saves Tx Pedo Teacher From Jail

At least that is the ask Gawker reports that 61-year-old Esther Irene Stokes of Montgomery is making.

Texas Teacher Denies Fondling First-Grader, Says She's Too Racist to Molest a Black Student

Ms. Stokes "...was charged with felony indecency with a child last week after allegations surfaced that she had touched the private parts of a 7-year-old female student at Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School in Humble.'  No, did not happen says the veteran teacher who says that it "...couldn't have fondled the student because she a racist and doesn't like touching black children."

She may not get a lot of support from management at the privateish Houston Metroplex school  Her principal looks like he may be black.

Principal Paul A. Hardin

You may want to look for her at a Subway's near you; she has been blown out of the school and "...is currently free after posting a $10,000 bond, but is due back in court on May 21st."

5876...Grizzly Bear Series In British Columbia

The signs are already out.

This one was spotted at the corner of Davie and Granville.

5875...Toronto's Rob Ford Goes International !!!

Sure Rob Ford may be the Mayor of Toronto but he is the butt of jokes all over God's green earth.

The Daily Mail, that is a brit fish wrap, ran this tight little story yesterday about a city, its mayor and TV cameras.

Portly Toronto Mayor Rob Ford bruised more than just his ego when he managed to walk face first into a TV news camera on Monday.Being surrounded by TV cameras is an occupational hazard for any busy official, but that didn’t stop Ford from walking straight into one as rushed out of a meeting at city hall.‘Ah f*** man. Holy Christ!’ exclaimed the gaffe-prone official as he rubbed his face after the run-in. ‘Holy. Guys have some respect, you just hit me in the face with a camera.’

As you are aware hizzoner is involved heavily in football.  Could he not just borrow a helmet?  Full face of course.

5874...Breaking Bad Is Back On AMC!!!

5873...I Love Stephen Harper

It is being reported everywhere that his inane and insane in the membrane hate ads named at Justin Trudeau failed.

To the tune of 330,000.00 $ being sent our way.

Thank you Stephen Harper.

5872...Outdoor NHL Hockey In Los Angeles Next Year

This I gotta see.  Which, I presume, is the point.

My buddy Len Berman from Len Berman's That's Sports drops this knowledge on me which I pass on to you:

According to reports the NHL, in addition to the Outdoor Classic between Detroit and Toronto at Michigan Stadium New Year's Day, is planning 5 additional outdoor games next season including games at Yankee Stadium (2 during Super Bowl week), Dodger Stadium and Soldier Field, Chicago.

I think the NHL is finally getting this marketing thing.   Now all they have to do is figure out what roads lead from Phoenix to Canada.

5871...He Would Destroy Stephen Harper

He is Justin Trudeau.

Even the sworn enemy of all that is not Blue, The Toronto Sun, said so this morning.

Problem is the question says "If the election was held tomorrow."

We have to be viligant; two years is a lot of time; things have changed before.

5870...Albert Einstein On The Conservatives

You know how they are; always talking common sense.  Heck Mike Harris even had a Common Sense Revolution.

*Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen. ~Albert Einstein~

Thanks for digging that up and posting it on Facebook Mr. Shillingford.

5869...Tomorrow In Your Sun Marijuana News

As you know Hitler's birthday is coming up and we all know what that means.   Call centre employees, high school drop outs and fast food workers play hooky and roll up onto Parliament Hill to smoke dope under the noses of the RCMP and parliamentarians.

As you also know this celebration, 420, does zero to further the legalization of pot; in my view it retards it coz it reinforces conservative [and Conservative] stereotypes of pot smokers.  The movement needs its Rosa Parks.  And she ain't gonna smell of pitruli oil.

But I am looking forward to a piece that Anthony Furey of the Suns was promoing on 580 CFRA's The Lunch Bunch today.  Apparently he is writing a wee piece where he asks why.  Why the Conservatives in Ottawa are against legalizing it.  Why they have brought in inane and insane minimum sentences.  Why can't you grow it with your tomatoes and zucchini in the backyard this summer.

If you need the 50 cents put it on my tab, k?

5868...Conservative Austerity

Good on you Israel!

5865...Boston. Yeah But What About ME!

The narcissism of the long distance runner.

Just bumped into some returning Boston marathoners at Billy Bishop airport. Repeated complaints about not being able to get across the finish line seemed a tad self absorbed.

F*cking for virginity.

And this from Pablo Coffey on Facebook:

5863...Bombings In Boston Fuel Conspiracy Freaks

Talking about you Tyrone Drummond.

He posted this on Facebook:

Anyone else suspicious of the bombings today at the Boston Marathon?

Black Helicopter people:  sometimes a rose is just a f*cking rose, okay?

5862...Bad Day For A Boat Ride

At least it was on this day in 1912.

The unsinkable Titantic spawned a legend when it went down near Newfoundland 101 years ago today.

5861..."Alcohol May Have Been A Factor"

Mixed with guns of course.

From Deadspin and USA Today via Gawker and Russell Barth's News Aggregator comes this:

Man Shoots Himself in Head at NRA-Sponsored NASCAR Event

Three months after Gun Appreciation Day resulted in several accidental shootings, another gun-advocating event has been marred by gun violence. On Saturday, it was reported that a man died from gun shot wounds suffered at NASCAR's NRA 500 race at Texas Motor Speedway. Late Sunday afternoon, medical investigators ruled the shooting a "self-inflicted injury," saying the man shot himself in his head.
Fort Worth police said the incident occurred shortly after the man, 42-year-old Kirk Franklin of Saginaw, Texas, engaged in an argument with other campers at the event. There were several witnesses to the incident, but no other injuries were reported. Police also said that alcohol may have been a factor.

Canna make this stuff up.  If it wasn't so sad it would be beautiful.

5860...The Next PM

Presuming that the next PM is the new leader of the Liberal Party, Justin Trudeau, let us hope that he does a 180.

There was a time that Canada was a democracy.  There was a time that government was there to serve the people

In this country we embrace the myth that we are still a democracy when we know that we are not a democracy, that we are not free, that the government does not serve us but subjugates us. Although we give lip service to the notion of freedom, we know the government is no longer the servant of the people but, at last has become the people’s master. We have stood by like timid sheep while the wolf killed, first the weak, then the strays, then those on the outer edges of the flock, until at last the entire flock belonged to the wolf. We did not care about the weak or about the strays. They were not a part of the flock. We did not care about those on the outer edges. They had chosen to be there. But as the wolf worked its way towards the center of the flock we discovered that we were now on the outer edges. Now we must look the wolf squarely in the eye. That we did not do so when the first of us was ripped and torn and eaten was the first wrong. It was our wrong.

That comes from the mind of Gerry Spence, the Wyoming based trial lawyer, talking about his own country. He may as well be talking about Canada too.

It is the hottest movie of the moment.

It is the Jackie Robinson bio pic.

Today to honour the man who broke the colour barrier in Major League Baseball all players in the bigs will be wearing 42.

How cool is that?

5858...Jean Chretien Approved

Heard it with my own eyes.

Just saw the former PM, Jean Chretien, on CTV Newsthingy with Kevin Newman gushing about the new leader of the Liberals, Justin Trudeau.

Hey, you gotta figure that no matter what happens the new job will look good on his resume, eh?

5857...Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

The talking heads were finally right.

The next leader and next Prime Minister of Canada is Justin Trudeau.

Happier days are here again.

5854...Street Food Hits Montreal

Montreal, one of the greatest cities in the world for food, hasn't had street food for 65 years.

That's what I learned from a Globe and Mail I found on the bus earlier this week.  I have only visited Montreal about 824 times and have lived there a bit and never noticed the lack thereof.  This illustrates how observant I are not.

"Trucks will be limited to 10 sites downtown on a trial basis beginning June 10. Candidates will be selected by a city committee, must be offshoots of existing caterers or restaurants, and do most of their food preparation off-site."

The limited amount of permits, 10, means intense competition for said permits and that, in true Montreal style, means envelopes full of cash.

Mayor Applebaum has caught on fast, eh?

5853...NDP Imploding

Check this out from their convention via ex Global and Montreal Star biggie Ray Heard on Facebook:

5852...In The Blink Of An Eye An Era Ends

Not many people on the planet have been universally recognized by a single name.

Kobe.  Elvis.  Messi.

A few more.

It looks like the Kobe era ended late in last night's game against the Golden State Warriors when the Los Angeles Lakers star tore his Achilles tendon.  CNN reports that ""Bryant elected to have surgery to repair the torn left Achilles tendon...The successful surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Stephen Lombardo of the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Group. Recovery time is expected to be a minimum of six to nine months."

It is sad to see a hero fall.

5851...In Less Than 24 Hours

5849...Stephen Harper Calls It As It Is

Back home in Calgary to do a little constit work out beloved Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, took a min out of his busy schedule to comment about the Rehtaeh Parsons case.

In case you missed the story let me and The Canadian Press refresh your brain cells.  "The Nova Scotia girl's family says she hanged herself last week after she was sexually assaulted by four boys and a photo of the alleged incident was distributed online."

It is a case of bullying.  Except, and I am with him on this, PM Harper says it is much more.  Our beloved PM says that "...bullying has the connotation of kids misbehaving, but what has been described in this case is criminal activity."

True dat.

5848...Smart Meets Smart

That will be tomorrow in the final of the NCAA hockey season when Yale, George W. Bush's alma mater, plays fellow Connecticut smarty pants school Quinnipiac.

It is reported widely that the game, the climax of the cleverly named Frozen Four, will be played in Sidney Crosby's barn in Pittsburg.

My understanding is that the game is going to be on ESPN2.  If you, like myself, are in deepest darkest Canuckistan, try atdhe.eu.

5847...Ontario Leads The Way

CFRA reports that Ontario is number one!

A new report from the Fraser Institute finds that Ontario's electricity is the most expensive in North America because of the Green Energy Act.  Lead author Dr. Ross McKitrick tells CFRA the conservative think-tank studied the costs of expanding to renewable energy.   "The drain on the public budget, the effect on manufacturing operating costs — just on those bases there, just on the hard cost numbers, we're looking at diminished manufacturing activity and much higher electricity prices in the province," he says.  Dr. McKitrick adds the Green Energy Act is costing $200-million a year and argues that less expensive alternatives could have achieved similar greenhouse gas emissions reductions.  The report did not study the long-term sustainability of energy sources.
The key sentence in the story of course is "The report did not study the long-term sustainability of energy sources."

One thing about the McGuinty cum Wynne government is that they, unlike, for example, Stephen Harper, project into the future and understand that Ontario needs to have options and different channels of energy sources.

5846...John Baird Gives It Up

To John Kerry.

A 24 of Molson Canadian cans.

Hockey bet costs John Baird a case of beer

The raison for the presentation to John Kerry was the loss of the Canadian women's hockey team to the Yanks in the women's hockey championship in Ottawa Tuesday.

5845...Today's Reason To Drink

It is happy birthday to the New York Mets!!!

My buddy Len Berman from Len Berman's That's Sports tells all that "On this date in 1962 the Mets were born. They lost in St. Louis 11-4. Casey Stengel was the manager, Roger Craig the losing pitcher, Charlie Neal and Gil Hodges hit homers for the Mets. Don Zimmer played third base. Good times!"

Seven years later they were Amazin'!

5843...Women Hate Sandy Sharkey

Sandy Sharkey is the erswhile morning host on BOB FM; they blew her out earlier this year.

She is also a former contestant on The Wheel of Fortune

But wait it gets better/worse.

Oprah, that Oprah, was in Ottawa last night and, according to Ms. Sharkey, her shoes were too tight.

So she gave them to Ms. Sharkey.

BTW Oprah is a 10.5.

I am a 10.5.

If I didn't have to do my Masters pool I would be walking in those puppies, eh?
