5854...Street Food Hits Montreal

Montreal, one of the greatest cities in the world for food, hasn't had street food for 65 years.

That's what I learned from a Globe and Mail I found on the bus earlier this week.  I have only visited Montreal about 824 times and have lived there a bit and never noticed the lack thereof.  This illustrates how observant I are not.  

"Trucks will be limited to 10 sites downtown on a trial basis beginning June 10. Candidates will be selected by a city committee, must be offshoots of existing caterers or restaurants, and do most of their food preparation off-site."

The limited amount of permits, 10, means intense competition for said permits and that, in true Montreal style, means envelopes full of cash.

Mayor Applebaum has caught on fast, eh?
